What is Aemcolo ?
Aemcolo (rifamycin) is an orally administered antibiotic specifically formulated for the treatment of adult patients with travelers’ diarrhea caused by noninvasive strains of Escherichia coli. It functions by inhibiting bacterial RNA synthesis, effectively reducing the growth and spread of bacteria within the intestinal tract. Aemcolo is not indicated for use in cases involving fever or bloody diarrhea and should be used only when the pathogen is known or suspected to be noninvasive E. coli.

- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Blood in your stools, fever, or worsening of diarrhea
- Severe stomach pain
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have a fever or blood in your stool.
- Call your doctor if your diarrhea does not improve or if it gets worse within 48 hours.
- This medicine can cause diarrhea. Call your doctor if the diarrhea becomes severe, does not stop, or is bloody. Do not take any medicine to stop diarrhea until you have talked to your doctor. Diarrhea can occur 2 months or more after you stop taking this medicine.
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
