What is Erythrocin Lactobionate ?
Erythrocin Lactobionate is an intravenous formulation of erythromycin, belonging to the macrolide class of antibiotics. It is primarily used to treat severe infections caused by susceptible strains of bacteria, including respiratory tract infections, skin infections, and pelvic inflammatory disease. Administered in a hospital setting, Erythrocin Lactobionate is also indicated for patients who cannot tolerate oral administration.
- Pain, itching, swelling, or a lump under your skin where the needle is placed
- Mild diarrhea
- Hearing loss
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Blistering, peeling, red skin rash
- Fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeat
- Dark urine or pale stools, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pain, yellow skin or eyes
- Severe diarrhea, stomach cramps, fever
- Tell any doctor or dentist who treats you that you are using this medicine. This medicine may affect certain medical test results.
- This medicine can cause diarrhea. Call your doctor if the diarrhea becomes severe, does not stop, or is bloody. Do not take any medicine to stop diarrhea until you have talked to your doctor. Diarrhea can occur 2 months or more after you stop taking this medicine.
- This medicine may cause the following problems: Liver problemsHeart rhythm problemsInfantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, heart problems, heart rhythm problems, or myasthenia gravis.
- Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments.
