What is First-Metronidazole ?
First-Metronidazole is an antibacterial and antiprotozoal medication that belongs to the nitroimidazole class of antibiotics. It is primarily used to treat various infections caused by anaerobic bacteria and protozoa, including gastrointestinal and respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and bacterial vaginosis. First-Metronidazole works by inhibiting nucleic acid synthesis in the microorganisms, leading to their death and resolution of the infection.

- Do not consume alcohol during treatment and for at least 3 days after treatment because it can cause severe nausea, vomiting, cramps, flushing, and headache.
- Metronidazole may cause liver toxicity and can affect liver function tests.
- Avoid use during the first trimester of pregnancy, unless considered absolutely necessary, due to potential risks to the fetus.
- May cause severe skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome, which can be life-threatening; discontinue use immediately if rash or other symptoms appear.
- This medication can cause dizziness; do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how it affects you.
- May increase risk of candida infections, such as yeast infections, especially with prolonged use.
