What is Levophed?
Norepinephrine Bitartrate is a sterile solution for intravenous administration, primarily indicated for the management of acute hypotension and shock. It acts as a potent alpha-adrenergic agonist with minimal beta-adrenergic activity, leading to vasoconstriction and an increase in blood pressure and cardiac output. Due to its rapid onset and short duration of action, continuous monitoring is essential during administration to ensure appropriate therapeutic response and prevent adverse effects.Side Effects

- Fainting, dizziness, or lightheadedness
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
Warnings
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have heart rhythm problems, asthma, blood clots, high blood pressure, or an allergy to sulfites.
- This medicine may cause the following problems:Tissue ischemia (low blood supply to the tissue), which may lead to gangrene (skin or tissue damage) of the arm or legHeart rhythm problems
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
- Pain, itching, swelling, burning or a lump under your skin where the needle is placed.
- Slow or uneven heartbeat.
