What is Cholestyramine ?
Cholestyramine is a bile acid sequestrant used primarily to lower cholesterol levels and treat itching associated with partial biliary obstruction. It works by binding bile acids in the intestine, preventing their reabsorption, which facilitates the removal of these acids from the body. In addition to its cholesterol-lowering effects, it is sometimes used off-label to manage diarrhea caused by excess bile acids in conditions such as Crohn's disease.
