What is Brineura?
Brineura (cerliponase alfa) is an enzyme replacement therapy specifically designed to treat a form of Batten disease known as CLN2 disease, a rare neurodegenerative disorder. Administered via intraventricular infusion, Brineura helps slow the progression of motor function decline in affected pediatric patients by replacing the tripeptidyl peptidase 1 (TPP1) enzyme, which is deficient in these individuals.Side Effects
- Fever, chills, cough, sore throat, body aches
- Severe headache, drowsiness, confusion, stiff neck or back
- Lightheadedness, dizziness, fainting
Warnings
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have a history of heart disease, heart rhythm problems, low blood pressure, or a slow heartbeat. Tell your doctor if you have had surgery on your head.
- This medicine may cause the following problems:Increased risk of infections, including meningitisIncreased risk of heart disease, heart rhythm problems, or low blood pressure
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
