What is Sski?
SSKI (saturated solution of potassium iodide) is an inorganic iodide solution used primarily to manage hyperthyroidism and to protect the thyroid gland from radioactive iodine exposure during nuclear emergencies. It is also used to treat fungal infections of the skin when used topically. SSKI works by saturating iodine receptors in the thyroid, thereby inhibiting the synthesis and release of thyroid hormones.Side Effects
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Confusion, weakness, uneven heartbeat, shortness of breath, or numbness or tingling in your hands, feet or lips.
- Mild nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
