Farxiga is a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. Farxiga belongs to the gliflozin class of drugs. This drug works in your kidneys and increases the amount of sugar excreted in your urine. Farxiga is a brand version of the drug dapagliflozin propanediol. This medication was approved by the US FDA in 2014. In the treatment of type 2 diabetes, farxiga use is fairly common.

  • Stuffy or runny nose, sore throat
  • White or yellow vaginal discharge, vaginal itching or odor
  • Redness, itching, pain, or swelling of the penis, bad-smelling discharge from the penis
  • Lightheadedness, dizziness, fainting
  • Increased hunger, headache, confusion, shaking, trembling, sweating
  • Fast or trouble breathing, tiredness, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting
  • Pain, tenderness, redness, or swelling of the area between the anus and genitals, fever
  • Rapid weight gain, swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet
  • Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness
  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
  • Change in how much or how often you urinate, bloody urine, painful or difficult urination, lower back or side pain, chills
  • Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
  • Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. Do not use this medicine during the second and third part of your pregnancy, unless your doctor tells you to.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, heart failure, vitamin B12 deficiency, or a history of pancreas problems, or genital yeast or urinary tract infections. Tell your doctor if you are on a low-salt diet, if you drink alcohol, or if you are having a surgery or other procedures that require fasting.
  • Do not breastfeed during treatment with this medicine.
  • This medicine may cause the following problems:Low blood pressureDiabetic ketoacidosis (high ketones and acid in the blood), which can be life-threateningKidney problemsIncreased risk of genital yeast or urinary tract infectionsLow blood sugar, when used with other diabetes medicinesFournier's gangrene (skin or tissue damage of the area between the anus and genitals)
