Looking for a Jardiance coupon? Jardiance (empagliflozin) is a brand-name SGLT2 inhibitor with no generic version yet, so the cash price can run high. Rx.com offers a free discount coupon you can use at the pharmacy counter — no insurance or membership required. Enter your ZIP above to see today's price at pharmacies near you, then bring the coupon to save on your prescription.
What is Jardiance and how does it work?
Jardiance is the brand name for empagliflozin, a medicine in the SGLT2 inhibitor (sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor) class. It works in the kidneys, helping the body remove extra sugar through the urine. It is taken once daily along with diet and exercise.
Jardiance is FDA-approved to improve blood sugar control in adults and children 10 and older with type 2 diabetes; to lower the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and known heart disease; to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization for heart failure in adults with heart failure (whether the heart's pumping is reduced or preserved, and with or without diabetes); and to reduce the risk of ongoing kidney decline, kidney failure, cardiovascular death, and hospitalization in adults with chronic kidney disease at risk of getting worse. It is not for type 1 diabetes. Many people also notice modest weight loss and lower blood pressure as side effects, but Jardiance is not approved as a weight-loss drug.
Jardiance cost: manufacturer savings card vs. Rx.com cash coupon
There are two main ways to bring down the price of Jardiance. Boehringer Ingelheim, the maker, runs an official Jardiance savings card program on its website for eligible patients. Like most manufacturer copay cards, it is generally limited to people with commercial (private) insurance and is not available to those on Medicare, Medicaid, or other government plans. Terms, eligibility, and any savings amount are set by the manufacturer and can change, so check the program's official details directly.
The Rx.com cash coupon works differently. It is a discount coupon, not insurance, so it can help if you are uninsured, on Medicare, or if the manufacturer card is declined at the counter. Because Jardiance has no generic, this cash price is what many people pay out of pocket. Enter your ZIP above to see today's price and print or show the coupon at the pharmacy. Boehringer Ingelheim also offers a patient assistance program for qualifying lower-income patients who cannot afford their medication — ask your pharmacist or the manufacturer whether you qualify.
Jardiance alternatives and similar drugs
Jardiance belongs to the same SGLT2 inhibitor family as Farxiga (dapagliflozin), Invokana (canagliflozin), and Steglatro (ertugliflozin). Synjardy combines empagliflozin with metformin in one pill. For type 2 diabetes, doctors also commonly prescribe metformin (which does have low-cost generics) or a GLP-1 medicine such as Ozempic.
These medicines work in different ways and are approved for different combinations of diabetes, heart, and kidney benefits, so they are not interchangeable. Only your prescriber can decide which is right for you. If you are switched to one of them, you can look up its price and a coupon on Rx.com the same way.
Jardiance safety and side effects
Jardiance has no boxed warning, but there are important risks to know. The most common side effects are genital yeast (mycotic) infections and urinary tract infections. More serious risks include ketoacidosis (which can happen even when blood sugar looks normal, called euglycemic DKA), dehydration and low blood pressure — especially in older adults, those on water pills (diuretics), or those with kidney problems — acute kidney injury, serious urinary tract infections such as pyelonephritis or urosepsis, a rare but serious flesh infection of the area between the genitals and anus (Fournier's gangrene), and a possible increase in lower-limb amputations noted with this drug class. Low blood sugar can occur when Jardiance is combined with insulin or sulfonylureas.
Jardiance should not be used for type 1 diabetes or to treat DKA, and it is usually stopped for a short time around major surgery or serious illness. This is general information, not medical advice — talk with your doctor or pharmacist about your health and any medicines you take before starting or stopping Jardiance.
This Jardiance information was written and reviewed against authoritative U.S. medical sources — MedlinePlus (U.S. National Library of Medicine), DailyMed, and FDA prescribing information — and checked for accuracy.
