What is Triamterene ?
Triamterene is a potassium-sparing diuretic that belongs to the class of medications known as benzothiadiazides. It works by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the kidneys while sparing potassium, thereby preventing potassium depletion often caused by other diuretics. This mechanism makes Triamterene useful in treating edema and hypertension, often in combination with other diuretics or antihypertensive agents.
