What is Gadoteridol?
ProHance (Gadoteridol) Injection is a non-ionic gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to facilitate the visualization of abnormalities in the brain, spine, and associated tissues. It works by altering the magnetic properties of water molecules in the body, enhancing the quality of the MRI images. ProHance is administered intravenously and is known for its low osmolality and relatively safe profile in patients with renal impairment.Side Effects
- Muscle stiffness, weakness, stiff joints, trouble with moving, deep bone pain
- Rash or redness of the skin
- Warmth or redness in your face, neck, arms, or upper chest
Warnings
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, blood problems (including anemia, sickle cell anemia), diabetes, high blood pressure, or a history of asthma, allergies, or seizures.
- This medicine may cause the following problems:Serious unwanted effects including brain problems (encephalopathy), death, coma, and seizures, when given intrathecally (injection given through the spinal canal)Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF)Acute kidney injury (AKI)
- This medicine contains a metal called gadolinium, which can stay in your body (including the brain, bones, skin) for a long time (several months to years). Talk to your doctor if you have concerns about this.
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
- Fast, slow, pounding, or uneven heartbeat
