Halaven is an anticancer drug indicated for the treatment of breast cancer. It works by stopping the cancer cells from multiplying and spreading in the body. Halaven is often prescribed after the failure of other treatments including chemotherapy medications. In addition to treating patients with breast cancer, Halaven may also be used to treat liposarcoma. Liposarcoma is a rare type of cancer found in soft tissues of fat cells that cannot be removed surgically or has been spread to other parts of the body.

  • Do not breastfeed during treatment and for 2 weeks after the final dose.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, heart failure, or heart rhythm problems (including long QT or slow heartbeat).
  • This medicine may cause birth defects if either partner is using it during conception or pregnancy. Tell your doctor right away if you or your partner becomes pregnant. Women: Use an effective form of birth control during treatment and for at least 2 weeks after the final doseMen: Use an effective form of birth control during treatment and for at least 3.5 months after the final dose.
  • Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
