What is Optison ?
Optison (Perflutren Protein-Type A Microspheres) is a prescription ultrasound contrast agent used in echocardiography to improve the visualization of the left ventricular chamber and endocardial border in patients with suboptimal echocardiograms. It is composed of microspheres filled with perflutren, a gas that enhances the reflection of ultrasound waves, thereby improving image quality and diagnostic accuracy. Optison is administered intravenously and is specifically indicated for use in select echocardiographic procedures when additional image enhancement is needed.
