What is Radiogardase?
Radiogardase, also known as Prussian blue insoluble or ferric hexacyanoferrate(II), is an oral medication used to treat thallium poisoning and non-radioactive cesium poisoning, as well as to enhance the elimination of radioactive cesium from the body following radiological or nuclear exposure. This agent functions by binding to cesium and thallium ions in the intestines, thereby reducing their systemic absorption and facilitating their excretion in feces, effectively reducing the body's burden of these toxic substances.Side Effects
- Constipation
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Dry mouth, increased thirst, muscle cramps, nausea or vomiting, uneven heartbeat
Warnings
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have liver disease or arrhythmias (heart rhythm problems).
- This medicine may cause low potassium levels.
- This medicine slows digestion and may cause constipation. Tell your doctor if you have digestion problems.
- This medicine may cause your stools to turn blue. This is normal and nothing to worry about. Also, if you open the capsules and mix them with food, your mouth and teeth may also turn blue.
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
