What is Akovaz?
Akovaz, with the active ingredient ephedrine sulfate, is a sympathomimetic amine used primarily as a vasopressor to treat clinically significant hypotension occurring in the setting of anesthesia. It works by stimulating alpha and beta-adrenergic receptors, leading to increased cardiac output and peripheral vasoconstriction, thereby raising blood pressure. Akovaz is administered intravenously and is particularly important in critical care settings where rapid intervention is necessary.Side Effects
- Fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeat, sweating
- Shallow breathing, pale or blue skin
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
Warnings
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, enlarged prostate, thyroid problems, or a history of stroke.
