Augmentin is a prescription antibiotic that contains two active ingredients: amoxicillin, a penicillin-type antibiotic, and clavulanate potassium, which helps prevent certain bacteria from becoming resistant to treatment. This combination makes Augmentin effective against a broader range of bacterial infections than amoxicillin alone and is one of the most commonly prescribed antibiotics in the United States.

Healthcare providers frequently prescribe Augmentin to treat sinus infections, ear infections, strep throat, tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin infections, dental infections, and other bacterial illnesses. By stopping the growth of bacteria and helping the body's immune system clear infection, Augmentin can help reduce symptoms and support recovery when used appropriately.

Because bacterial resistance has become an increasing concern, Augmentin is often selected when a healthcare provider believes a more broad-spectrum antibiotic may be beneficial. However, like all antibiotics, Augmentin is only effective against bacterial infections and will not treat viral illnesses such as the common cold, flu, or most sore throats caused by viruses.

Common side effects may include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, headache, and rash. Taking Augmentin with food may help reduce stomach-related side effects. Patients should always complete the full course of treatment as prescribed, even if symptoms improve before the medication is finished.

Many people search for Augmentin dosage, Augmentin side effects, Augmentin for sinus infections, Augmentin for UTIs, Augmentin for dental infections, and online antibiotic treatment options. Through Rx.com, you can connect with a licensed healthcare provider online in minutes to discuss symptoms, receive a medical evaluation, and determine whether Augmentin or another antibiotic may be appropriate for your condition.

Whether you're researching Augmentin for a sinus infection, ear infection, bronchitis, urinary tract infection, dental abscess, or another bacterial illness, learn about Augmentin uses, dosage recommendations, side effects, safety information, and available treatment options through Rx.com.
