What is Carbimazole?
Carbimazole is an antithyroid medication primarily used to treat hyperthyroidism, a condition where the thyroid gland produces excessive hormones. It works by inhibiting the production of thyroid hormones, helping to restore normal thyroid function and alleviate symptoms such as rapid heart rate, sweating, and anxiety. Warnings
- Blood disorders such as agranulocytosis can lead to severe infections. Monitor white blood cell counts regularly.
- Immediate discontinuation is required at the first sign of severe hepatic disorders, hematological reactions, or skin reactions.
- Avoid use in patients with severe hepatic and renal impairment.
- Potential teratogenic effects when used during pregnancy. Use only when clearly necessary and after assessing the risks and benefits.
- Requires regular monitoring of thyroid levels to avoid over- or under-correction of thyroid function.
