What is Cisapride ?
Cisapride is a gastroprokinetic agent that is used to increase the motility of the gastrointestinal tract by enhancing the release of acetylcholine at the myenteric plexus. It has been primarily employed in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions involving impaired gastrointestinal motility. However, due to significant cardiac side effects, including QT interval prolongation leading to serious arrhythmias, its use has been severely restricted in many countries.
