What is Dextenza ?
Dextenza is an ocular insert designed to deliver a corticosteroid medication called dexamethasone to the eye. It is used for treating pain and inflammation following ophthalmic surgery. The insert is placed in the lower conjunctival sac of the eye, where it gradually dissolves over a period of approximately 30 days, providing sustained-release medication delivery without the need for eye drops.
- Blurred vision or change in vision
- Increased pain, redness, discharge, swelling, or irritation of the eye
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Increased eye pain
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have asthma, allergies, glaucoma, cataracts, or an eye infection.
- This medicine may cause the following problems: Eye problems (including glaucoma, cataracts, infections) with long-term useIncreased pressure in your eye, which can damage the optic nerveNew or worsening eye infectionsSlow healing of the eye
- Ophthalmic routeIf you hurt your eye, develop an eye infection, or need to have eye surgery, talk with your doctor right away. You may need to change your medicine or stop using it. Tell your doctor if you had a cataract surgery.
- You will need to have your eyes checked regularly, especially if you use Maxidex® for 10 days or longer. Be sure to keep all appointments.
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
- Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments.
