What is Dupixent?
Dupixent (dupilumab) is a monoclonal antibody designed to inhibit the signaling of interleukin-4 and interleukin-13, two proteins that play a key role in the inflammatory process associated with several chronic diseases. It is prescribed for the treatment of moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis, asthma that is primarily driven by eosinophilic or allergic inflammation, and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis, helping to reduce symptoms and improve quality of life.
Side Effects
- Burning, dry, or itching eyes, discharge, excessive tearing
- Fast heartbeat, trouble breathing, chest pain
- Fever, chills, cough, runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, body aches
Warnings
- This medicine may cause the following problems:Increased risk for eye infections, including conjunctivitis or keratitisJoint painEosinophilia, including pneumonia or vasculitis (swelling of the blood vessels)
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
- This medicine will not stop an asthma attack that has already started. Your doctor may prescribe another medicine for you to use in case of an asthma attack. Tell your doctor right away if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have eye or vision problems, lung or breathing problems, heart problems, or a parasite infection.
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
