What is Pirfenidone ?
Pirfenidone is an oral antifibrotic agent used primarily for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). It works by reducing fibroblast proliferation, inhibiting transforming growth factor-beta, and decreasing the production of fibrosis-associated proteins and cytokines. This medication helps to slow the progression of lung function decline in patients with mild to moderate disease.

- Dark urine or pale stools, loss of appetite, yellow skin or eyes
- Severe sunburn or increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, or stomach or bowel problems.

- Stop smoking before treatment with pirfenidone and avoid smoking while you are using this medicine.
- This medicine may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Wear sunscreen. Do not use sunlamps or tanning beds.
