What is Fosamax Plus D ?
Fosamax Plus D, containing alendronate sodium and cholecalciferol (vitamin D3), is a combination medication used primarily to treat and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and to increase bone mass in men. Alendronate belongs to a class of drugs known as bisphosphonates which inhibit bone resorption, while vitamin D3 aids in the absorption of calcium, enhancing bone health. This medication is typically administered once weekly and is effective in maintaining bone density and reducing the risk of fractures.

- Mild stomach pain or upset
- Pain or difficulty when swallowing
- Unusual pain in your thigh, groin, or hip
- Severe bone, joint, or muscle pain
- Muscle spasms or twitching, tingling or numbness in your fingers, toes, or around your mouth
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Chest pain, new or worsening heartburn, or burning feeling in your throat
- Pain, swelling, numbness, or a heavy feeling in your mouth or jaw, loose teeth, or other tooth problems
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, heartburn, anemia, blood clotting problems, ulcers or other stomach or bowel problems, sarcoidosis, a vitamin D deficiency, or a history of leukemia, lymphoma, or other cancer. Tell your doctor if you have dental problems or if you wear dentures. Also tell your doctor if you smoke or drink alcohol.
