What is Kesimpta?
Kesimpta (ofatumumab) is a CD20-directed cytolytic antibody used for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS), including clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting disease, and active secondary progressive disease, in adults. Administered via subcutaneous injection, Kesimpta works by targeting B cells, playing a crucial role in the inflammatory and immunological processes of MS.Side Effects
- Dark urine or pale stools, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pain, yellow skin or eyes
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness
Warnings
- It is not safe to take this medicine during pregnancy. It could harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant. Use an effective form of birth control to keep from getting pregnant during treatment and for at least 6 months after the last dose.
- Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding, or if you have liver disease, any type of infection, a weak immune system, or a history of hepatitis B infection.
- This medicine may cause the following problems:Increased risk of infections, which may be life-threatening (including bacterial, fungal, viral, hepatitis B, progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy)Infusion reactionsTumor lysis syndrome (electrolyte and metabolic problem that can be life-threatening)
- This medicine may make you bleed, bruise, or get infections more easily. Take precautions to prevent illness and injury. Wash your hands often.
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
