¿Qué es Maraviroc?
Maraviroc es un medicamento antirretroviral utilizado en el tratamiento de la infección por VIH-1. Funciona como un antagonista del CCR5, bloqueando el correceptor CCR5 en las células CD4, impidiendo así que el virus entre e infecte las células inmunitarias del huésped. Maraviroc es particularmente efectivo en pacientes con VIH-1 trópico para CCR5 y se utiliza típicamente en combinación con otros agentes antirretrovirales.Side Effects
- Dizziness, lightheadedness, or faintness
- Blistering, peeling, or red skin rash
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
Warnings
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
- Always practice safe sex, even if your partner also has HIV. If you stop taking this medicine or do not take it as prescribed, you may spread HIV to others. Do not reuse or share needles, or other items, that may have blood or body fluids on them.
- Do not breastfeed. You can spread HIV or AIDS to your baby through your breast milk.
- This medicine may cause the following problems:Liver problemsSerious skin reactionsIncreased risk of infection or cancer
- Your immune system may get stronger when you start taking HIV medicines. Tell your doctor right away if you notice any changes in your health. Sometimes the immune system will start to fight infections that were hidden in your body, such as pneumonia, herpes, or tuberculosis.
