What is Tiglutik?
Tiglutik is a medication formulation of riluzole, used for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). It comes in an oral suspension form, allowing for easier administration and swallowing, especially beneficial for patients with difficulty swallowing pills. By working to decrease the release of glutamate, Tiglutik helps to slow the progression of ALS and extend survival or the time until tracheostomy is needed.Side Effects
- Cough, trouble breathing
- Dark urine or pale stools, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pain, yellow skin or eyes
- Fever, chills, cough, sore throat, body aches
Warnings
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
- This medicine lowers the number of white blood cells. This weakens your immune system, so you may get infections more easily. Wash your hands often. Avoid people who are sick.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have liver disease or lung or breathing problems. Tell your doctor if you have Japanese ancestry.
- This medicine may cause the following problems:Liver problemsLung problems (including interstitial lung disease)
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
