What is Xadago?
Xadago (safinamide) is a monoamine oxidase-B (MAO-B) inhibitor approved for use as an adjunct treatment for patients with Parkinson's disease. It works by increasing dopamine levels in the brain, helping to improve symptoms of movement and motor function. Xadago is specifically used to enhance the effects of levodopa/carbidopa therapy, reducing the off episodes where the effects of medication wane and symptoms can return.
Side Effects
- Muscle spasms, twitching, uncontrolled movements (especially of the face, neck, or back)
- Chest pain, fast, slow, or uneven heartbeat, severe headache
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
Warnings
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
- Do not stop using this medicine suddenly. Your doctor will need to slowly decrease your dose before you stop it completely.
- This medicine may make you drowsy. It may even cause you to fall asleep without warning while you are driving or doing other activities. Do not drive or do anything that could be dangerous until you know how this medicine affects you. Stand up slowly if you feel dizzy or lightheaded.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have liver problems, dyskinesia, high blood pressure, or a history of eye or vision problems or mental health problems.
- Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments.
