What is Zilxi?
Zilxi (minocycline) is a topical foam formulated for the treatment of inflammatory lesions caused by rosacea in adults. Developed by Menlo Therapeutics, it harnesses the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of minocycline in a novel 1.5% foam formulation, designed for easy application and enhanced skin penetration. Zilxi is the first minocycline product of its kind approved by the FDA for this purpose.Side Effects
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Blistering, peeling, red skin rash
- Dark urine or pale stools, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pain, yellow skin or eyes
Warnings
- It is not safe to take this medicine during pregnancy. It could harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant.
- Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, diarrhea, or eye or vision problems.
- This medicine may cause the following problems:Slow bone growth or permanent change in tooth color (in children 8 years of age and younger)Liver problemIncreased pressure inside the headAutoimmune disorders, including lupus-like syndromeSerious skin reactions, which can be life-threatening
- This medicine may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or spinning feeling. Do not drive or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how this medicine affects you.
- This medicine can cause diarrhea. Call your doctor if the diarrhea becomes severe, does not stop, or is bloody. Do not take any medicine to stop diarrhea until you have talked to your doctor. Diarrhea can occur 2 months or more after you stop taking this medicine.
