Mavenclad (cladribina) es un medicamento con receta utilizado para tratar la esclerosis múltiple (EM) en adultos. Está específicamente indicado para el manejo de la enfermedad recaída-remitente y la enfermedad progresiva secundaria activa, caracterizada por características clínicas o de imágenes. Mavenclad se administra por vía oral y funciona al seleccionar específicamente los linfocitos que se cree están involucrados en el proceso patológico de la EM, reduciendo así la inflamación y el daño neuronal.Side Effects
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Blistering, peeling, red skin rash
- Blurred vision, loss of coordination, clumsiness, memory loss, confusion, personality changes, weakness on one side of the body
Warnings
- This medicine may cause birth defects if either partner is using it during conception or pregnancy. Tell your doctor right away if you or your partner becomes pregnant. If you are a woman who can get pregnant, your doctor may do tests to make sure you are not pregnant before starting this medicine. Birth control pills may not work as well to prevent pregnancy when used with this medicine. Use another form of birth control (including condoms or spermicide) along with your pills during treatment and for at least 4 weeks after the last dose in each treatment course. Female patients and male patients with female partners should use an effective form of birth control during treatment and for at least 6 months after the last dose in each treatment course.
- Do not breastfeed during treatment with this medicine and for 10 days after the last dose.
- Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease, or any type of infection.
- This medicine may cause the following problems:Increased risk of cancerIncreased risk of serious or life-threatening infections, including bacterial, viral, parasitic, and fungalBlood transfusion problemsLiver problemsHeart failure
- This medicine may make you bleed, bruise, or get infections more easily. You will be at risk for infections including herpes, pyelonephritis, tuberculosis (TB), hepatitis B or C, progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, or fungal infections. Take precautions to prevent illness and injury. Wash your hands often.
