What Is Metronidazole?
Metronidazole (brand names: Flagyl, MetroGel, MetroCream) is a prescription nitroimidazole antibiotic and antiprotozoal agent with potent activity against anaerobic bacteria and certain parasites. Alcohol Warning
Do not drink alcohol during treatment or for 48 hours after the last dose — metronidazole causes a disulfiram-like reaction with alcohol (severe flushing, nausea, vomiting, headache).
