What is Alfuzosin Hcl Er?
Alfuzosin HCl ER (Uroxatral) is a prescription medication used to treat the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as an enlarged prostate. It relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck to improve urine flow and reduce symptoms such as frequent urination, weak stream, and difficulty starting urination.

- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
Warnings
- This medicine is not for use in women.
- Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, chest pain (angina), low blood pressure, or heart rhythm problems (including QT prolongation).
- This medicine may make you dizzy or lightheaded. Do not drive or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how this medicine affects you. Get up slowly from a sitting or lying position. If you feel dizzy, lie down so you do not faint. Then sit for a few moments before you stand up.
- Tell your eye doctor (ophthalmologist) that you have used or are using this medicine before cataract surgery or any other eye procedure. This medicine may cause a serious eye problem called Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome (IFIS).
- Call your doctor right away if you have a prolonged erection while you are using this medicine. It must be treated right away to prevent permanent impotence.

Alfuzosin HCl Extended-Release (Uroxatral) is a prescription medication used to treat the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate gland that commonly affects older men. As the prostate enlarges, it can place pressure on the urethra, leading to urinary symptoms such as frequent urination, weak urine stream, difficulty starting urination, incomplete bladder emptying, and waking at night to urinate.
Alfuzosin belongs to a class of medications known as alpha-1 blockers. It works by relaxing the smooth muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, allowing urine to flow more easily and reducing urinary obstruction. While alfuzosin helps improve urinary symptoms and quality of life, it does not shrink the prostate or stop the progression of BPH. Some patients may require additional medications if prostate enlargement continues over time.
