Alprazolam is a medication that is commonly used to treat panic attacks or anxiety disorders. Alprazolam belongs to a class of medications called benzodiazepines. Alprazolam is a generic medication, and it was approved for therapy in 1976. Alprazolam first came out under the trade name Xanax and was released by Upjohn (now part of Pfizer). Alprazolam is one of the most common benzodiazepines prescribed today.

- This medicine may make you dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how this medicine affects you.
