Gabapentin comes in capsule form and is used to treat seizures and pain caused by shingles. It affects nerves and chemicals in your body that are involved in the cause of seizures and some types of pain. Common side effects include skin rash, fever, muscle aches and flu-like symptoms

  • Dizziness, drowsiness, sleepiness, tiredness
  • Unusual moods or behaviors, thoughts of hurting yourself, feeling depressed
  • Rash, swollen or tender glands in the neck, armpit, or groin
  • Blistering, peeling, red skin rash
  • Dark urine or pale stools, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pain, yellow skin or eyes
  • Rapid weight gain, swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet
  • Problems with coordination, shakiness, unsteadiness, unusual eye movement
  • Behavior problems, aggression, restlessness, trouble concentrating, moodiness (especially in children)
  • Change in how much or how often you urinate, bloody or cloudy urine
  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
  • Blue lips, fingernails, or skin, chest pain, fast heartbeat, trouble breathing
  • Fever, chills, cough, sore throat, body aches
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney problems (including patients receiving dialysis) or lung problems. Tell your doctor if you have a history of depression or mental health problems.
  • This medicine may cause the following problems:Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) or multiorgan hypersensitivity, which may damage the liver, kidney, blood, heart, or musclesChanges in mood or behavior, including suicidal thoughts or behaviorRespiratory depression (serious breathing problem that can be life-threatening), when used with narcotic pain medicines
  • Do not stop using this medicine suddenly. Your doctor will need to slowly decrease your dose before you stop it completely.
  • This medicine may make you dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how this medicine affects you.
  • Tell any doctor or dentist who treats you that you are using this medicine. This medicine may affect certain medical test results.
