Hydroxyzine is a medication used to treat various conditions including anxiety, nausea, vomiting, or skin allergies. Hydroxyzine belongs to a class of medications called antihistamines. Hydroxyzine is a generic medication also sold under the brand names Vistaril and Atarax. Hydroxyzine was first marketed in the US in 1956. Hydroxyzine use is fairly common in the treatment of anxiety, allergy, and nausea.

- This medicine may cause a skin rash when you are out in the sun. Use a sunscreen when you are outside, and try not to spend long periods in direct sunlight.

- This medicine might contain phenylalanine. This is only a concern if you have a disorder called phenylketonuria (a problem with amino acids). Talk to your doctor before using this medicine.
- Side effects of this medicine may occur more frequently in young children and older adults.
- Some antihistamine syrups contain alcohol.
