What is Levodopa ?
Levodopa is a precursor to the neurotransmitter dopamine, widely used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease to alleviate symptoms such as tremors, stiffness, and slowness of movement. It works by crossing the blood-brain barrier and being converted into dopamine, necessitating careful dosing to manage potential side effects. Commonly administered in combination with carbidopa, Levodopa's effectiveness increases while simultaneously reducing peripheral side effects.
