What is Clobazam ?

Clobazam is a benzodiazepine derivative primarily used as an adjunctive therapy in the management of seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy. It functions by enhancing the effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter, thereby producing a calming effect on the nervous system. Clobazam is known for its anxiolytic and anticonvulsant properties, making it effective in reducing the frequency and severity of seizures.

• Should be used with caution in patients with a history of drug abuse.
• An increased risk of CNS depression when taken in combination with other central nervous system depressants.
• Potentially severe skin reactions, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis, may occur.
• Use during pregnancy is not recommended unless clearly needed; potential risks to fetus.
• Can exacerbate respiratory issues; caution in patients with respiratory disease.
