What is Ramelteon ?
Ramelteon is a medication used to help people who have trouble falling asleep. It works by mimicking a natural substance in the brain that helps regulate sleep.
Ramelteon is a medication prescribed for individuals who experience sleep-onset insomnia, which means they have difficulty falling asleep. It belongs to a class of drugs known as melatonin receptor agonists, which work similarly to melatonin, a natural substance in the brain that helps control sleep cycles. By acting on the same receptors as melatonin, ramelteon helps you fall asleep more quickly. It is important to take ramelteon as directed by your healthcare provider, who will determine the appropriate dose for you. Common side effects may include drowsiness, which can occur soon after taking the medication. Because of this, it is advised not to drive or operate machinery until you know how ramelteon affects you. Additionally, it is recommended to avoid alcohol while taking this medication, as it can worsen side effects. If you have any concerns or if your sleep problems do not improve, be sure to consult your doctor. Always follow your prescriber's instructions carefully and ask questions if you need clarification about your treatment with ramelteon.
