Safety, side effects, and who should not take it
Sumatriptan has no FDA boxed warning, but it does have important limits. It is contraindicated in people with ischemic (narrowed-artery) coronary disease, coronary vasospasm or Prinzmetal angina, uncontrolled high blood pressure, a history of stroke or TIA, hemiplegic or basilar migraine, peripheral vascular disease, ischemic bowel disease, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome or certain other arrhythmias, and severe liver impairment.
