Chlorpromazine hydrochloride is the generic version of the older antipsychotic once sold under the brand name Thorazine, which is no longer marketed in the United States — today it's available only as a generic. Because pharmacy cash prices for the same generic drug can vary widely from one location to the next, it pays to compare before you fill a chlorpromazine hcl coupon. Rx.com compares pricing across more than 60,000 U.S. pharmacies, so enter your ZIP above to see today's price near you.
What Is Chlorpromazine Hydrochloride?
Chlorpromazine hydrochloride is a first-generation (typical) antipsychotic in the phenothiazine class. It's FDA-approved for schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, the manic phase of bipolar disorder, severe behavioral problems in children ages 1 to 12 (combative, explosive hyperexcitability, or short-term treatment of hyperactive children showing excessive motor activity), nausea and vomiting, intractable hiccups, presurgical relief of restlessness and apprehension, acute intermittent porphyria, and as an adjunct treatment for tetanus. It's also sometimes used off-label for migraine and other headache pain in emergency-department settings, though that isn't an FDA-approved use.
The original brand, Thorazine, was discontinued in the U.S. market, so chlorpromazine is now available only as a generic medication.
Chlorpromazine HCL Cost and Coupons
Because chlorpromazine is generic-only, there's no brand-name version to compare it against, and there is currently no manufacturer savings card for this medication. That doesn't mean pricing is the same everywhere — cash prices for the same generic drug can still vary significantly from pharmacy to pharmacy depending on location, pharmacy type, and dosage strength.
That's why it's worth comparing before you fill your prescription. Enter your ZIP code above to see today's price at pharmacies near you and find where your chlorpromazine hcl prescription costs less.
Chlorpromazine Alternatives and Comparisons
Chlorpromazine belongs to an older group of antipsychotics often called first-generation or typical antipsychotics. If you and your provider are discussing options, other antipsychotics that sometimes come up include first-generation haloperidol, or newer second-generation (atypical) medications such as olanzapine, risperidone, and quetiapine.
For nausea and vomiting specifically, promethazine is another medication sometimes used, although it is not an antipsychotic. Only your prescriber can determine which medication and dose fit your diagnosis.
