Malarone is an antimalarial drug used to treat malaria caused by mosquitoes. Malarone works by interfering with the growth of the parasites in the red blood cells.

  • Headache.
  • Weakness, dizziness.
  • Mild skin rash or itching.
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, loss of appetite.
  • Cough.
  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
  • Blistering, peeling, red skin rash.
  • Fever, chills, headache, cough, sore throat, body aches.
  • Seeing or hearing things that are not there.
  • Seizures.
  • Sores or white patches on your lips, mouth, or throat.
  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding, or if you have kidney problems or liver problems.
  • You may still catch malaria while taking this medicine. If you become ill or have a fever, call your doctor.
  • Because malaria is spread through insect bites, you can help prevent malaria by keeping your skin covered with clothing. Use bug spray and place mosquito netting over your bed while you sleep.
