Elitek is an intravenous powder for injection that is used by cancer patients to prevent an increase in uric acid. Patients who are undergoing cancer treatment usually have increased uric acid levels. As such, Elitek reduces the occurrence of uric acid from crystallizing in the kidneys.
- Pain, itching, burning, swelling, or a lump under your skin where the needle is placed
- Anxiety
- Mouth sores or white patches in your mouth or throat
- Nausea or vomiting
- Swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet
- Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Blue lips, fingernails, or skin
- Chest pain or trouble breathing
- Chills, fever, back or stomach pain, dark urine, yellow skin or eyes
- Lightheadedness, dizziness, fainting
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you are of African or Mediterranean descent. People with this ancestry are more likely to have G6PD deficiency.
