What is Allopurinol ?

Allopurinol is a medication primarily used to treat gout and certain types of kidney stones by reducing the levels of uric acid in the blood. It is also effective in preventing increased uric acid levels in patients undergoing chemotherapy. Allopurinol works by inhibiting the enzyme xanthine oxidase, which is involved in the synthesis of uric acid.
