What is Trimethoprim?
Trimethoprim is an antibiotic primarily used in the treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs) and as prophylaxis against certain types of pneumonia. It works by inhibiting bacterial dihydrofolate reductase, thereby blocking the production of tetrahydrofolic acid which is essential for bacterial DNA synthesis. This action makes Trimethoprim effective against a variety of susceptible bacteria.Side Effects
