What is Ezetimibe-Simvastatin ?
Ezetimibe-Simvastatin is a combination medication used in the management of hyperlipidemia, specifically targeting both dietary and biliary cholesterol as well as triglycerides. Ezetimibe works by reducing the amount of cholesterol absorbed by the intestines, while Simvastatin, a statin, inhibits the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase which the body uses to produce cholesterol, together effectively lowering LDL cholesterol levels and triglycerides, and increasing HDL cholesterol. This dual-action approach is helpful in reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke in patients with high cholesterol who have not adequately responded to diet or other treatments alone.
