Hydrochlorothiazide is a medication commonly used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to a class of medications called thiazide diuretics. Hydrochlorothiazide has also been used to treat body fluid accumulation (edema). Hydrochlorothiazide is a generic medication which has been marketed under the trade name Microzide. Hydrochlorothiazide is one of the most commonly used medications for the treatment of high blood pressure.
- Headache
- Mild diarrhea, constipation, nausea
- Confusion, weakness, and muscle twitching
- Sores, reddish patch or irritated area, shiny bump, pink growth, or white, yellow or waxy scar-like area on the skin
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Blistering, peeling, or red skin rash
- Trouble seeing, eye pain, blurred vision or other vision changes
