Bupropion is a medication used to treat depression and to help people quit smoking. Bupropion works by a mechanism unlike other classes of antidepressants. Bupropion is a generic medication also sold under the brand names Wellbutrin, Buproban, Aplenzin, Budeprion, and Zyban. Bupropion was approved for use by the FDA in 1985. In the treatment of depression and cigarette addiction, the use of bupropion is very common.

  • Do not stop using this medicine suddenly. Your doctor will need to slowly decrease your dose before you stop it completely.
  • Tell any doctor or dentist who treats you that you are using this medicine. This medicine may affect certain medical test results.
  • Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments.
